I was part of that effort when Green Mountain Power said that it would
cost hundreds of thousands of dollars to put the two miles underground.
The citizens said "no way" will they want the poles overhead with this
result. The town rose to the occasion and put the lines in themselves
with volunteers. Lenord Robinson dug the trench, the town supplied the
sand in the bottom of the trench, and the town purchased the wire from
the power company. The only cost to the town was the wire.
