I was part of that effort when Green Mountain Power said that it would cost hundreds of thousands of dollars to put the two miles underground. The citizens said "no way" will they want the poles overhead with this result. The town rose to the occasion and put the lines in themselves with volunteers. Lenord Robinson dug the trench, the town supplied the sand in the bottom of the trench, and the town purchased the wire from the power company. The only cost to the town was the wire.
