I was also not so surprised that there is help available for people in need, as was pointed out in last week's Valley Reporter. I have found the people here in The Valley to be very generous.

The question is, in a time of need and in a time of confusion and fear, where do you get the necessary information immediately? At the time of this immediate crisis, I had only the Mad River Valley directory in my hand. I called two churches, and the following day called the town of Waitsfield. Perhaps we could better distribute this vital information. We could have meetings for town officials, including fire and ambulance and even select board members who could be called for immediate information. Or we might have an emergency number page dedicated in the local book which would also include the Good Samaritan Haven, et al.

The lesson here is education. I feel better educated now, but if I needed this information at a later date, the only way I could find it again would be to keep a copy of The Valley Reporter at hand or rewrite the numbers and the names of the people who called or wrote in a safe place, but, what about the next person to come along?

I do hope someone out there will come up with a better way of having this information more closely at hand and readily accessible. Again, I want to thank all of you again for all of the wonderful phone calls and support you offered me.
