If this bill is adopted, the town of Waitsfield could be positioned to get both systems at no cost to the taxpayers. Users would then only be responsible for hooking up with a greatly reduced user fee going forward. Those who do pay federal income tax will see it there, undoubtedly, but let's not miss the opportunity to get our share of the federal stimulus package. With the amount of work already completed on both systems, we could be at the head of the line for the stimulus money. A positive bond vote for the water system on November 4 would be a great start.
Even without the stimulus package, we still need the water system as it is being proposed and will be voted on November 4. Sure, it is a financial burden for the users that hook up to the system, but they are hooking up to get safe, reliable water. Municipal water is also needed for the Irasville area to support the Town Plan adopted in 2005. If the Town Plan came to fruition, it would make Waitsfield an even neater place to live.
We need the water. Vote yes on November 4.
