The Valley Reporter had published an open letter of the Committee for Fiscal Responsibility, to Charlie Hosford, the chair of the Waitsfield Select Board, questioning the outrageous cost and demanding clarification of the fundamental details of the project. Shockingly the letter and the follow-up letter of the committee remain unanswered.
I have been myself looking at various details and I indeed concluded that the project is far from being transparent and that numbers do not add up. The staggering cost cannot be explained based on all the known details.
Finally, the fact that the select board would not answer the letter and the continued silence are not acceptable. It raises serious suspicion that there is something wrong with the project.
Also The Valley Reporter's editorial notes frustrated the attempts to get to the bottom of this expensive project by providing problematic figures and explanations.
Taking all the above into account it wouldn't be prudent to accept the bond proposal.
