There are no community taxes associated with this project. Ideally, a water and sewer system would be the best long-term plan for our downtown area, however, at a minimum, a municipal water system is crucial. State review and approval is now required for repairs, additions to, and new septic systems.
Septic systems require specified isolation distances from existing wells. Presently, there are a number of pre-existing systems that do not meet current state requirements and there exists the possibility of well contamination. A municipal water system will help in the handling of future septic issues, provide a good drinking water supply and fire protection.
Again, please vote "yes" for this much needed system on June 10 so it can be constructed at the same time as state's Waitsfield Village/Irasville highway paving project and the town sidewalk project.
