To The Editor:

In the 1960s there was Doc Quinby, a retired doctor who bought the house now used as China Fun. He thought he would retire in The Valley, but due to his friendly and community-mindedness he decided to skip retirement and open a medical clinic.

Fast forward 60 years and we have a new clinic serving 3,000 patients with 600 on a waiting list. The donor plaque in the waiting room honors 150 people who gave gobs of cash to build it and we have passionate doctors and staff to care for us.

Now we are told the owners who bought out our local doctors and staff are shutting it down and suggesting we drive to Waterbury or Montpelier instead, even though they have waiting lists. This is while they expand in New York and fail to open their books and give good reasons why.

This is totally unacceptable. Our population is expanding; we are planning a new town center in Irasville. If anything, we need to double the size of our clinic and take on the waiting list.

We, as a community, should demand a moratorium on closing and put whatever legal and community forces to work to do that now, then restructure the board of directors and secure a permanent first class medical and care facility right here and now.

We can go to the moon again and Mars, slow down and stop the climate disaster. And we can keep our medical team.
