To The Editor:
I read with interest the recent article on the ebb and flow of the ongoing battle with The Valley knotweed.
Numerous locations were mentioned but not once was there any reference to the overgrown Vietnam Memorial to the three fallen Valley men at Couples’ Club Field in Waitsfield.
In this ongoing battle, with questionable success, is there no time or respect for those who lost their battle and are apparently forgotten. I know the memorial site is small but to those of us who knew these young men it is bigger than knotweed.
As a side note I know how to get rid of knotweed and have been tempted sometimes to do it. It requires frequent mowing, black plastic and if necessary, spray it. I battled it for years on Caribou Island in Parmachenee Lake and finally won the war, not the battle.
