To The Editor:
We read that one of your columnists recently recommended the 19th hole area as a place for outdoor recreation in The Valley. The 19th hole is on private property and has been closed to skiers and hikers since 2012.
The land around the 19th hole is owned by Mad River Corporation, which used to own the Mad River Barn and Mad River Glen. Now the corporation primarily owns the land between those two properties: the areas commonly known as the 19th and 20th holes fall on Mad River Corporation land.
After the sale of the Mad River Barn in 2012, the properties were disconnected and the 19th hole was posted as no trespassing, either for walking up or skiing down. The 20th hole is also private property not owned or controlled by the Mad River Glen Co-op and, therefore, should not be promoted for skiing. Mad River Corporation has worked on getting the word out to the Mad River Glen community and the Mad River Barn that the 19th hole is off-limits.
