To The Editor:
I read most of the proposed streamlined zoning and land use document. It was pared down from 215 pages to 160. I attended the first Zoom meeting and followed the directions to write my concerns and questions, submit them and I would get a reply. The letter of concerns was submitted June 5, 2021. As of now, I have not had a response and the concerns I had were not addressed at the second Zoom meeting. I was concerned that there are many discrepancies. Most were because much of the document had been “cut and pasted” and not proofread before publishing -- about like an eighth-grade term paper.
I urge everyone to read the document. There is something in it for everyone. For people who own RVs in the village districts, only in driveways or behind the front line of the primary residence (3005.C) – it must be registered, inspected, proof of insurance, functioning directional lights (3005.B). I wonder how the zoning board will monitor this without violating my Fourth Amendment rights?
Own a trailer: Can’t store it in Warren for more than 30 days without a permit (3021.A) (3018.A). Where are all the boats, snowmobiles and contractors’ trailers to be housed? Folks with water flowing through or beside their property, unless it is existing lawn, wood vegetation must be maintained or established within 50 feet of bank (3019). In new developments it would be difficult to mow your lawn. Many lawnmowers emit enough noise that they could only be operated for 45 minutes every hour (3105.C). Holiday lights and yard sales would be monitored by the town (110.C.16) (110.C.25).
The town should not hold its citizens to a standard higher than the town maintains. Sidewalks should be 5 feet wide (3308.E.13.b.I). Retaining walls greater than 4 feet require a fence or hedge (3013.D). I believe the north side of Flatiron Road and the area around the covered bridge are within the limits requiring fences. How silly would a firehouse look with doors on the back (2101.E)?
I would like to see a document that could be enforced equally and fairly. I hope everyone reviews the proposed plan.
