To The Editor:

The Warren Prayer Flag display team has been in much thought and quiet conversation amongst ourselves about our response to someone cutting a string of flags from the Fourth of July installation in Warren Village.

The string in question was created by our friends and neighbors. Their views support conservative ideals and the Republican Party. Their flags were thoughtfully created and respectfully presented.

Our friends and neighbors have every right to express their beliefs and views anywhere, at any time, and we support that right wholeheartedly! This is our constitutional right as American citizens.

We are sorely disappointed in the person or group who decided that our neighbor's right to free speech was to be censored here in the Mad River Valley.

We hope you are not teaching this dishonorable belief to your children, as that divisive attitude will carry down another generation, harming us all. The current trend and frequent message of divisiveness needs to stop somewhere. As a community, one remarkable attribute of the Mad River Valley has been its enduring capacity for love and support of our neighbors.

So let the lesson be: Respect your friends’ and neighbors’ voice, even if you don’t agree with them.
