To The Editor:

Every election period is an opportunity to re-evaluate where we are and where we are being led by our legislators. Your vote means much more when you consider what has happened in the past and where we will be led by those we elect.

The Carbon Tax: There’s a very strong push to enact a tax on fossil fuel which will cause a substantial increase in the cost of gasoline, home heating fuel, kerosene and natural gas. The proponents say it will be revenue neutral because they will reduce other taxes. That’ll be the day that taxes are actually reduced. Of course, we will have to grow the state government to manage the Ponzi scheme. The leftover funds will be used to improve the insulation of low-income people’s homes. The same people who will be forking over the tax money for their fuel.

On the subject of the state government, Moody’s has downgraded Vermont’s bond rating from AAA to Aa1 because of “low growth prospects from an aging population” and “debt and unfunded post-employment obligations relative to GDP” as reported Tuesday. The unfunded post-employment obligations are Vermont’s unfunded state workers and teachers’ pension liabilities of $4.5 billion.

The Second Amendment: The knee-jerk legislation passed last session will do absolutely nothing to make Vermont safer. I believe two bump stocks were turned in to the VSP. Mandatory background checks sound like a good idea; the eventual outcome of this law will be the government mandating that everyone must register their firearms so that the government knows whose firearms are whose. I can hear all of the liberal/progs already: “No one should own guns; guns are evil and kill people.” Like drugs and alcohol don’t kill people, and what about all of the unborn children who are killed due to abortion?

There is no denying that Vermont is one of the most liberal states in the nation. I cannot fathom how so many people are happy to just let the government take control of their lives. No worries, just twist up another fatty and let the government take care of you.
