To The Editor:

Congratulations to Clayton Wetzel of Waitsfield Elementary School for being recognized as the Vermont School Nurse of the Year. And to other nurses in the past from both Harwood and Waitsfield School for their recognition. But we need to go back to the 1980s to remember the first nurse from Waitsfield who received this honor, Elaine Wade. Not only did she receive recognition in Vermont but also on the national level. She was inducted into the National Association of School Nurses as a Fellow. This is a symbol of superior achievement in the profession of school nursing as evidenced by her exemplary leadership qualities and contributions of significant and enduring impact.

So, we have some history of lasting significance for future nurses in our schools to aspire to.
