To The Editor:
Spring arrived with a "vengeance" last Monday morning at 6:30 a.m. It was the start of the "march of the dump trucks" over Roxbury Mountain Road all day long and six days a week until the end of October. Now that's a real carbon footprint.
It could be significantly reduced if sand and gravel pits were allowed in The Valley. We could, heaven forbid, mine the Mad River as we did 30 years ago. That's where the vast majority of the road sand ends up anyway. An added benefit from that would be deep pockets for the fish to thrive in during the heat of the summer. Anybody who fished 30 years ago will attest that the fishing was better when the river was deeper.
Just some thoughts that perhaps NIMBY and conservatism don't always create the desired result.
