To The Editor:

As you read this I'm either in jail, just out of jail or have evaded arrest. I'm protesting against our broken system of elections.

I must disagree with Ms. White's assessment that the Warren independence movement is about fear. The independence movement is about democracy. It is anti-authoritarian. It's about curriculum. It's about controlling what we teach our children and how we teach our children. If we give in to the “inevitability” of bureaucracy controlling our schools, then that is what we teach our children: that they must be obedient peasants, not citizens owning our democracy. We want to teach our children that it is their right and responsibility to fight for control of their lives and that is what we are doing in fighting against authoritarian rule from above. That's the reason I'm in Washington, DC.

This is my view and only my view.
