To The Editor:
As our electric vehicle owner who lives in The Valley, I am hopeful that Harwood will move forward with utilizing grant money to install a charging station at the school. I quite often spend time at Harwood along with other EV owners. By adding an EV charging station, Harwood would be making a strong statement that they fully support reducing the carbon footprint of cars in Vermont. The energy used to charge the car is 100 percent renewable from Washington Electric Co-op. There are several Harwood parents/students who drive Nissan Leafs with a battery range of 85 miles to the charge. With the release of the Tesla battery in 2017, the Leaf will provide 150 miles to the charge and become much more marketable. Vermont has over 1000 EVs on the road and is growing rapidly. There is a strong future for EVs in Vermont and Harwood could support this movement.
