Valley Arts opens its summer season with two exhibitions and two feasts.

THE COLORFUL BBQ

The Colorful BBQ takes place on Wednesday, June 13, at the Red Barn Galleries at Lareau Farm in Waitsfield. Gourmet food and art combine for this annual Valley Arts fundraising event. And the dinner provides an opportunity to preview the Green Mountain Watercolor Exhibition, which will open with a reception on June 17.

Reservations are required. Tickets for the BBQ are available at Three Mountain Cafe, the Valley Arts office in Village Square in Waitsfield or at 802-496-6682, and online at valleyartsvt.com/art/category/events. A portion of the ticket price is a tax-deductible donation to support Valley Arts.

THE GREEN MOUNTAIN WATERCOLOR EXHIBITION

The Green Mountain Watercolor Exhibition opens on Sunday, June 17, at the Red Barn Galleries at Lareau Farm. A panel of award-winning watercolor artists selected nearly 100 paintings from across North America for the show.

In just seven years, the exhibition has grown from a small, well-received local show to an exhibition of national distinction. It has attracted exceptional artists and well-known judges of awards. Richard Sneary, NWS, a nationally recognized watercolorist who holds signature status in the National Watercolor Society, is the judge for the 2018 exhibition, and he will select work for awards.

OPENING RECEPTION

The opening reception for the Green Mountain Watercolor Exhibition is Sunday, June 17, from 5 to 7 p.m. The exhibition will run through July 28; hours are Thursday through Sunday, from noon to 9 p.m.

The watercolor exhibition will be followed in the Red Barn Galleries by the Big Red Barn Show, which opens on August 2. This year marks the 21st anniversary of this show that showcases the work of Mad River Valley artists.

BIG RED BARN SHOW

Three exhibits in one, the show includes the main exhibit, a small works show, and the “Art Stall,” a corner dedicated to modestly priced prints and cards. The show includes the Art Treasure Hunt, a list of questions asking “Which painting has? …” and a bonus: the show provides opportunity to meet the artists serving as docents. Information for artists is at valleyartsvt.com/art/big-red-barn-art-show.

The opening reception for the Big Red Barn Show is Sunday, August 5, from 5 to 7 p.m. The show will run through August 25; hours are Sunday through Thursday, from noon to 9 p.m.

FROM THE OCEAN TO THE MOUNTAINS

Maine lobsters will be the main menu attraction at From the Ocean to the Mountains, an evening of food, music and fun that will take place on Sunday, August 12, at Sugarbush. There’ll be other food, too, including appetizers and desserts prepared by local restaurants.

The event runs from 4 to 7 p.m.; dinner starts at 5 p.m.

A portion of the ticket price is a tax-deductible donation to support Valley Arts. Reservations are recommended. Tickets are available at Three Mountain Cafe, and the Valley Arts office at 2 Village Square or 802-496-6682.
