American Flatbread is hosting the first school districtwide art show in the Red Barn Galleries at Lareau Farm in Waitsfield. The exhibit was organized by American Flatbread, participating public schools in the Harwood Unified Union School District and Green Mountain Valley School, in cooperation with Valley Arts.
The public is invited to celebrate the student artists and their art teachers at an opening reception in the Red Barn Galleries on Friday, May 18, from 5 to 7 p.m. The exhibit will run through June 2. Gallery hours are Thursdays and Fridays from 5 to 9 p.m. and Saturdays and Sundays from noon to 9 p.m.
Several hundred pieces of art created by several hundred students comprise the show, combining an amazing and imaginative riot of color, line and form, according to show host George Schenk.
The goals of the show are to bring student art to a wider audience by presenting it in a gallery setting outside the school environment and to recognize the important contribution that the arts make to childhood development, culture and the economy.
Artwork by students of Harwood Union Middle and High Schools, Thatcher Brook Primary, Crossett Brook Middle School, and Warren, Fayston and Waitsfield Elementary Schools will be displayed.
