Descent to Rise Above challenge winners announced

Full send is a phrase people hear on the slopes and in après haunts. The short of its meaning, as it applies to the hill, is to go big…throw everything at a run, a hit, or a feature.

That’s the word from Sugarbush which recently announced the winners of its Descent to Rise Above Challenge which asked skiers and riders to collectively post a billion vertical feet in a single season to raise $50,000 for mental health and wellness.

These folks skied and rode through a late start to the season and through the almost 300 inches of snow that eventually arrived. Over 14,000 people engaged in that pursuit and after last chair on Sunday, May 4, the vertical counter read 801,847,933.

Sugarbush was able to convince its partners in the fundraiser, The Be Better Here fund, that the intangibles of the challenges (smiles, memories, and community) actually had a vertical value – one that just happened to convert to 198,152,067 feet.

Here are the top three vert getters from each New England state and New York and getting them their hard-earned SHWAG shortly. And because of them and the other 13,981-plus people who sored their legs this season, $50,000 will be going to friends at North American Family Institutes NFI fund which will help with its continuing mission of providing community-based care for children, youth and adults in crisis.
