To The Editor:

We are writing to encourage Waitsfield voters to vote yes next Tuesday, October 22, in support of a new town office. The $850,000 in grants and gifts that have been secured by the town provide a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. We are now positioned to build a new, energy-efficient office that can be designed specifically to meet the town's needs in a great location at minimal cost to local taxpayers. In addition to the new offices, the Farm Stand location offers many other advantages to Waitsfield residents, including greatly enhancing the future use of the town-owned polo field for a wide range of recreational and cultural activities.

We support a creative, fiscally sound approach to the preservation and adaptive reuse of the Methodist Church. However, we think the evidence is clear that trying to make that site work for a new town office is not the right answer for the town and all of us taxpayers.

Let's seize the moment and the good fortune that has come the town's way by moving forward with the Farm Stand site.
