Drenching rain and the threat of thunderstorms one hour before that last Harwood Trail Series race on Thursday, August 1, kept all but the most determined runners away. In the end, Geoffrey Kazlow of Moretown was the fastest male, setting a new course record with a time of 19:44 for the 5k course.
Alice Woodruff of Waterbury was the fastest female with a time of 28:14. In the kids' 1k race, Chapin Rivers of Duxbury finished first with a time of 4:48, followed closely by the Diller sisters of Waterbury, Pippa and Tessa, who finished in 4:41 and 4:42, respectively.
The Harwood Trail Series continues every Thursday at 6:30 p.m. on the wooded trails behind Harwood Union Middle School and High School. Registration fees from each race will go towards the Harwood cross-country team's trip to the Maine Festival of Champions in Belfast this October.
The next Harwood Trail Series Race takes place Thursday, August 8. Runners are asked to arrive by 6 p.m. to register.
