After a riveting back-and-forth game, Green Mountain Valley School (GMVS) boys’ lacrosse defeated Colchester in overtime to earn the Division II state championship title on June 9.

If you were to write up an account of the game “and pitched it to a movie producer, you would have it tossed back at you as being a completely unbelievable story,” GMVS wrote on its website.

With less than a second left in the game, GMVS’ Hans Halvorsen fired a shot past the Colchester goalie’s left shoulder to tie the game and go into overtime, during which Mitch Grimmer scored the winning goal and the crowd went wild.

This victory marks the GMVS’ fifth state team title and first ever lacrosse championship title. Congratulations to the team’s seniors – Hans, Graham, Will, Christian, Thomas, Jacob, Mitch and Danny – who led like champions this season to secure the sweetest parting gift.
