It did not take long for the Lady Highlanders to rally against their hosts, pushing seven runs across in the second inning. It began when Hannah Lovely and Morgan Lamson both got on via errors. Lovely scored from third on a passed ball. Chelsea Delphia popped a single to left, driving home Lamson.
Delphia then scored on Sarah Danaher's single to right. Danaher stole second and then advanced to the plate on successive passed balls. Katelyn Durfee and Sam Winters both bunted their way to first base. Both runners scored via the passed ball as well. Hanna Martini took an inside pitch off her torso and was granted first base. Martini advanced to third on passed balls and scored when Lovely, batting for the second time in the frame, stroked a single to left.
In the third inning, Harwood catcher Jess Jones reached base via an error and proceeded to steal second. Jones moved to third on a ground out and scored when Winters dropped a bunt single in front of the plate and beat the throw to first base. Winters scored three pitches later as she advanced with a steal and a pair of passed balls.
In the fourth, the Highlanders notched three more runs as Lovely reached on a fielder's choice and Lamson bunted her way to first. A ground out scored Lovely and Lamson scampered home on a passed ball. Charlotte Thompson poked a single to left and scored three pitches later due to a steal and a pair of passed balls.
In the sixth inning, Harwood put the game well out of reach, taking advantage of more errors by their opponent, scoring 10 more times.
Harwood's offense knocked out a dozen hits and was led by Delphia's two hits and three RBI. Winters recorded three bunt singles and two RBI. Jones had a RBI double during the sixth inning.
Lamson struck out nine batters, walked four and gave up just four hits en route to her third pitching victory. The Highlanders next play at Lamoille on Thursday, May 14, and they host U32 on May 19.
