Freshman Kaylie Hart led the Harwood girls in the giant slalom with an 18th-place finish. Ariel Goodman, 23rd, Caroline Dillon, 28th, Jessica Normandeau, 31st, and Caty Shea, 51st, placed the team in fifth place after the event. This was a solid finish for the Harwood girls heading into their stronger event, the slalom.
The slalom is always the event that separates the top teams from the rest of the pack. Putting two runs together, on two different courses, is always a challenge. The Harwood girls were up for the challenge.
Caroline Dillon, eighth, and Ariel Goodman, ninth, got the team off to an outstanding start with excellent runs. Jessica Normandeau, 23rd, Lee Gubernick, 32nd, Kaylie Hart, 39th, and Caty Shea, 44th, gave the Harwood girls a third-place team finish in the event and moved the team up to third place overall in the meet. It was a great day for the Highlanders.
The boys' district meet is this Friday, February 20, at Smuggler's Notch. The state ski meets will follow in early March.
