The expert terrain at Mad River Glen is recognized as the most difficult terrain in the East, and the Unconventional Terrain competition is a test of a skier's ability to conquer this terrain.

Judging for the event is based on smoothness, creativity, turn quality, and difficulty of line. "The Triple Crown, and the Unconventional Terrain Competition in particular, seems to attract the best skiers from all over," said Mad River Glen marketing director Eric Friedman. The event, now in its 10th season, has developed a reputation for the wildest ski competition in the East. The competitors are judged on quality of their skiing -- not how far they can huck themselves off cliffs.

The Triple Crown is three days, three events, and one skier. The Triple Crown combines the results of the Unconventional Terrain Competition, the Vertical Challenge on February 27, and the Mogul Challenge on March 17 in an effort to crown the king and queen of the mountain. The winners of the Triple Crown series will be named in the Basebox Lodge after the Mogul Challenge on March 14.

The Unconventional Terrain Competition will begin at 11 a.m. with registration from 8 to 9 a.m. Friedman said all participants are urged to pre-register for the events. For additional information call, Mad River Glen at 802-496-3551.
