Of course, that means the coaches will have to make some very difficult decisions in the next week choosing the students to play on one of three teams: Varsity, JV-A, JV-B. And, then we will have to make the most difficult coaching decision of all: identifying the students who will not make any of the teams.
The Varsity and JV-A teams will hold their first scrimmage Saturday, November 17, at the Harwood gym. The varsity is scheduled to start around 9:30 a.m. and the JV game at 11:30 a.m. The season opens with an away game on Saturday, December 8, against Bellows Falls and the first home game of the season is Friday, December 14, against Middlebury.
Lots of work to do between now and the season opener on December 8.
WINTER SPORTS
High school winter sports started this week with middle school winter sports starting November 26.
From athletic director Sue Duprat: We have some new coaches on staff. Mike Martini is our new varsity girls' hockey coach. Taggert Haslam is our new varsity girls' basketball coach. Garret Folsom moves up from eighth-grade boys' basketball to JV-B boys' hoop; Russ Beilke is our new eighth-grade boys' coach (we are still looking for a seventh-grade boys' coach). Tabitha Pratt, who coaches the MS field hockey teams, is the new MS girls' hoop coach.
So we are looking forward to a fabulous winter season to follow up on such a terrific fall season.
CBMS SEARCHING FOR COACH
Crossett Brook Middle School is searching for a gymnastics coach.
Anissa Touchette, varsity and middle school gymnastics coach at Harwood, reports that Crossett Brook Middle School is looking for a gymnastics coach this year. If we do not find one, Annette Litchfield (who also coaches with me) and I will both do it to ensure we keep the team going. I was at a gymnastics coaches' meeting today and apparently a lot of schools are looking for middle level gymnastics coaches. I would love to get the word out there to anyone who loves working with kids and has any coaching experience (does not have to be gymnastics specific): The small gymnastics community in Vermont could use their help!
Our season started on Monday, November 12.
