The four-day event is part of the Vermont Golf Association's state Amateur Series that began back in June. The series of three tournaments features the Vermont Amateur, the Vermont Mid Amateur and the Vermont Senior Amateur. The mid Am features the best amateur golfers ages 35 and over.

"To be selected as a tournament venue is great recognition for the (Sugarbush) club," remarked Sugarbush's assistant golf pro R.J. Austin. "It shows how far we've come as a course and opens the door for Sugarbush hosting more major competitions."

This is the first time Sugarbush has ever hosted a major men's amateur tournament.

The tournament begins today at 8 a.m. with players competing for 32 spots. The field will be winnowed down to the best two players who will face off in a match play final on Sunday.
