6f74f827 bb7d 49d0 a8f5 fd5dcdc089ecSophia Tretiak has been hired as new head coach for Harwood Union’s varsity field hockey program.

“I am excited to announce that we have offered the position of varsity field hockey coach to Sophia Tretiak, and she has accepted the position. Sophia’s development of student-athletes, both as young adults and tactically on the field, has the athletic department excited to welcome her to our school,” Harwood Union athletic director Chris Langevin said.

“She is going to bring a new vision, excitement, and passion to the field hockey program, and I’m excited to see where the program goes -- thesky is the limit,” he added.

Tretiak comes from Montpelier High School where she coached for 7 years for the Solons, after a successful stint as a player herself at Salve Regina University in Newport, RI.

“I am so excited to start coaching at Harwood. I’m passionate about field hockey and look forward to getting to know the team,” Tretiak said, “I’m grateful to have this opportunity. This is sure to be a unique season and I’m excited to get started.”

It will be a different experience for Tretiak this fall, as schools are restarting athletics after being shut down since March due to COVID-19. The Highlanders’ first game was scheduled for September 2, but the state pushed all fall sports back to begin practices on September 8 with an updated game schedule to come at a later date.
