The Harwood boys’ golf team had a solid season leading up to the boys’ Division II championship. The team only lost two regular season matches this season to Stowe by less than eight strokes.
Prior to the match, the Harwood team focused on defending their title and improving with each swing. Head coach Brian McCarthy commented on how the team practiced self-discipline after finishing second in their qualifying match at Rutland in order to achieve their goal of another title.
“Every player improved, Aidan 3, Jon 8, Nate 11 Liam 15, and Jake 8, and we ended up winning by 10,” said McCarthy.
The team was able to take home the trophy victorious in defending their title. Aiden Melville shot a 70, Nate Honeywell 73, Jon Honeywell, 77, and Liam Guyette 94.

McCarthy spoke highly of Nate Honeywell, a senior leader on the team. “Honeywell had the best round of his high school career with a 1 over 73. His birdie on 18 was an amazing end to his high school career.”
Another senior leader on the green, Aidan Melville, finished the season with a 2 under 70 and may be the only player in Vermont golf history with an average under par for a season.
In only his second year of competitive golf, Liam Guyette's 94 sealed the second straight golf championship for Harwood.
The championship match was held at the Country Club of Vermont on October 10, with a 10:30 tee-off time.
