On March 8 and 9, Sugarbush Resort and Green Mountain Valley School hosted the final weekend of the U16 Vermont State Girls' Championships at Mt. Ellen. Close to 100 families gathered in the Mad River Valley for three days of racing on the Inverness trail. The weather conditions were ideal and Sugarbush groomed the hill to perfection for Friday's Super G, Saturday's giant slalom, and Sunday's slalom races.
After a great race series with many GMVS girls on the podium, GMVS will send 14 female athletes to the Eastern Championships in Lake Placid next week. Hannah Utter took first in the giant slalom, second in the slalom and placed first overall. Julie Stock took first in the Super G.
Green Mountain Valley School (GMVS), Fayston, is a ski academy with alpine training facilities at Sugarbush Resort and multiple Nordic training facilities throughout the area. The academy offers a full academic curriculum, theater program, student clubs and spring and fall sports.
