This year, Green Mountain Valley School (GMVS) student Samantha McClellan is one of two winners of the Ski Racing Development (SRD) and World Cup Supply's (WCS) Fast Skier Junior Alpine Scholarship.
The scholarship is awarded each year to one female and one male who demonstrate an exceptional commitment to ski racing, as well as to academics and community service. The male winner of this year's scholarship is Nathan Gunesch of Mount Hood Academy in Oregon.
McClellan is currently a U16 athlete at GMVS where she is also an active member of several community service committees. Before coming to GMVS, she was an accomplished ski racer with the club Gran Uec and trained in Andorra and Pas de La Casa in her home country of Spain.
As the recipients of the sixth annual scholarship, both McClellan and Gunesch will receive a cash award as well as a WCS "Stealth" jacket, a WCS team jacket, a speed suit from SRD USA, a WCS start cape and a WCS backpack.
"Every year we are astounded by the quality of the applicants," Barry Levinson of SRD USA said of this year's scholarship. "Their commitment to not only ski racing but academics and community service clearly demonstrate how well-rounded these young athletes are."
