Construction of a new classroom at the WarrenElementary School is on track, according to the principal, Wendy Cobb, via the school’s newsletter.
The attic has been cleaned and organized by a team of volunteers in preparation for contractors to do their job.
“Thanks again to all of you who helped out in any way! Heidi Hill’s classroom was painted and it looks great!” Cobb said.
The attic space was cleared out and the insulation was removed, the electrical demolition was completed, the bridge to the new classroom was framed in and the relocated wall in the lobby is in place. The footing in the basement, for a steel column, is in place.
The deep sink in the art room has been temporarily removed in order to place this column. The art room will still have a sink, however. Putting in this steel column also meant we needed to temporarily move the big mixer in Claire Simpson’s kitchen. She assured me she still will be able to use it. The sink and the mixer will be repositioned as soon as possible.
The sprinkler and electrical work began Monday, September 17. The sprinkler work will be complete before school begins. The fire alarm test is scheduled for Tuesday, September 18. The electricity was to be down in the kitchen, front office and Deirdre Fennelly’s office for much of this week. School administrator Laurie Jones is temporarily set up in the little room near Cobb’s office. The crew will begin framing the floor for the new classroom and work near Katie’s Sullivan’s classroom will be done before school starts.
The west end of the parking lot near the preschool playground has been fenced off. Cobb asked that parents and students go around to access the playground.
“We also ask that they use the front door to enter preschool classrooms, and not go in through the playground, until further notice. We apologize for the inconvenience and thank you for your understanding,” Cobb added.
