Rob MacLeod, a veteran history teacher at Harwood Union High School, has been named the 2012 Vermont History Teacher of the Year by the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History, HISTORY and Preserve America.
As part of this award, MacLeod will receive $1,000, a certificate of recognition, an archive of books and historical resources presented in his name to the HUHS school library and an invitation to attend a 2013 Gilder Lehrman Teacher Seminar. He will also be recognized at a ceremony within Vermont. He is also a finalist for the $10,000 National History Teacher of the Year Award.
In addition, Harwood will be named a Gilder Lehrman Affiliate School. Affiliate schools receive invitations to regional forums with noted historians, access to extensive teacher resources such as lesson plans, toolkits and primary source documents to use in the classroom, priority access to teacher seminars and traveling exhibitions, discounts to the online store and free mailings.
Harwood Union MSHS serves the towns of Waterbury, Fayston, Duxbury, Moretown, Waitsfield and Warren. Approximately 75 percent of Harwood graduates continue on in two-year or four-year colleges. Harwood offers many innovative academic programs for a wide diversity of student needs and interests. Harwood also has an outstanding athletic and co-curricular program.
