The Harwood Union community is invited to meet the finalist for the school’s new principal, Adam Rosen, at a public meeting on January 17 from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Rosen will be visiting Harwood all day on January 17 and will be meeting with the Harwood community that evening in the Harwood auditorium.
The school board will interview Rosen on January 18 and reach a decision at that time.
Rosen lives in Montpelier and has been the principal at Rumney Memorial School since 2006. He has a wide range of experience in education including classroom teacher in several different subjects, college instructor, assistant director of Headstart, program director at the VT Center for the Book, child development specialist at UVM, SAT instructor, and program director at Burlington Children’s Space.
He earned a BA from the University of Wisconsin Colleges and an MA in educational leadership from Woodbury Institute. He received the Governor’s Prevention Award for his work with Boot Camp for Dads and served on the board of directors for Washington Central Friends of Education.
Last May, following the resignation of former principal Duane Pierson, Harwood Union High School began a principal search that did not yield a final candidate. Last fall Harwood instituted a 12-member search committee to find a new principal for the 2012-13 school year. The committee consists of Steve Sands, Dale Smeltzer and Chris Koliba, board members; Wendy Gilbert, Carol Gargon, Brian Wagner and Lisa Atwood, Harwood staff members; Brigid Scheffert, Washington West superintendent; Sheila Rivers, director of curriculum and assessment; Melissa Shea and David Goodman, community members; and Rachel Zacharias, student.
Harwood received 41 applications for the vacancy and, after going through a collaborative process, chose Adam Rosen as the finalist.
