Cynthia Jane Talcott Mongeon lived a wonderful life. She was born to George S. and Marjorie W. Talcott on June 27, 1929, in Williston, Vermont. She loved growing up on the family farm on North Williston Road. Cynthia was the oldest of seven siblings. She enjoyed many wonderful times with her family, which she longed for until the end on June 4, 2013.
She enjoyed playing golf at the Williston Golf Course, playing baseball with the boys in Williston, camp in South Hero and other passions. She was an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox and any sports thather children, grandchildren and great-children played. She was there to cheer them on. She and her sisters supported the Vermont Reds, Expos and Lake Monsters at Centennial Field, where her father played in college.
Cynthia graduated from Burlington High School in 1947. She completed her studies at Becker Junior College in Worcester, Massachusetts, in 1949. She married a local Williston boy, Julian Francis Mongeon, on February 3, 1951, and lived at Camp Pickett in Virginia while Julian completed his Army stint. Relocating back to Vermont, Cynthia and Julian raised three children in Essex Junction and Essex, Vermont. She served in the town offices for many years. In 1977, she finished a degree program at UVM and worked in the medical fields until her retirement. Cynthia and Julian lived a nomadic life in retirement, living in the Carolinas, Florida and Vermont. After 55 years of marriage, Julian passed away in March 2006. Cynthia continued her passion of supporting her family as she continued to live life as full as she could. She spent many wonderful years at the Taft Family center in Williston and then in Claremont, NH.
Alzheimer’s disease took its toll and she needed special care. She stayed at the Heaton House in Montpelier and the Gill Odd Fellows Home in Ludlow until the end.
Surviving Cynthia is her sister Lucy Lapan of Milton, VT; daughter Sharon and her husband Wayne Ennis of Durham, NC; son Stephen and his wife Karen Mongeon of Claremont, NH; son Brian and his wife Martha Evans-Mongeon of Waterbury Center, VT; grandchild Elizabeth and her husband James Ross II of Rock Hill, SC; grandchild Kristie and her husband Michael LeBlanc of Claremont, NH; grandchildren Martha and Jeff Evans-Mongeon of Waterbury Center, VT; great-grandchildren Nick Irvin, Grant and Jackson Cochrane, and step great-grandchildren James III and Brittney Ross of Rock Hill, SC; great-grandchild Tyler LeBlanc of Claremont, NH; and many, many nieces and nephews throughout the Talcott and Mongeon clans in all parts of the United States.
She was predeceased by parents in 1978 and 1984 and her brothers George Jr. and John; sisters Peggy, Shirley and Lucia; along with their spouses.
A graveside service will be held at the East Cemetery on Route 2 in Williston on Monday, June 10, 2013, at 10 a.m. A family gathering will take place at one of Cynthia’s favorites at the Vermont Sports Grill on Williston Road in South Burlington following the service.
In lieu of flowers, Cynthia’s family wishes to have contributions go to the Heaton House, 10 Heaton Street, Montpelier, VT 05602; or the Gill Odd Fellows Home, 8 Gill Terrace, Ludlow, VT 05149 in Cynthia’s name. We can never say enough about how the staffs at both locations aided and cared for Cynthia in the last days. We thank them with our deepest appreciation.
