Gary Jon Beattie, 75, passed away suddenly on May 16, 2013, at Maine Medical Center in Portland. He was born on July 26, 1937, in Northfield, VT. He was the son of James A. Sr. and Amy (Dole) Beattie. He graduated from Northfield High School in 1955. He joined the Army National Guard in 1955, where he had earned several rifle marksmanship awards. He married Carol (Sullivan) Beattie in 1960. They had three kids, Ann Beattie of Morrisville, Eric Beattie and wife Leesa of Northfield and Amy Long and husband Avery of Fayston.
He worked with his father at the Northfield High School on the rifle team. He worked many years for himself as a subcontractor and did masonry all over the states. He also worked at Seppala and AHO Construction of New Ipswich, NH, Brothers Building Co. in Waitsfield, S.G. Phillips Corp. in Waitsfield, and Cianbro Corp. in Pittsfield, ME. He has been somewhat retired in South Harpswell, ME. He was a highly skilled craftsman and handyman. He enjoyed marksmanship, building, mason, vegetable gardening, skiing, fishing and dancing. His current hobby was beekeeping and his four grandkids. Nicholas Lamson, Tyler Beattie, Shawna Beattie and Katelyn Long.
He was a member of the Elks and National Rifle Association of America. He had a big heart and would help anyone. He was predeceased by both of his parents and brother James A. Beattie Jr. Survivors are sister Georgia Maschmeier of Alabama and partner of 33 years Gertrude Heath of South Harpswell, Maine. He was a stepdad to her eight kids.

There will be a service on June 15 at the gravesite at 11 a.m., at Mount Hope Cemetery at Route 12, South Main Street in Northfield, VT 05663.
After the service the family is having a gathering of his life at the American Legion at 48 Depot Square in Northfield, VT 05663.
