Sally J. Tremblay, 80, of Village Woods, Waitsfield, passed away on Tuesday, December 18, 2012. Born in Waitsfield on August 26, 1932, she was the daughter of the late Claude and Reta Wimble. On September 6, 1952, Sally married J. Edgar Tremblay in Moretown. Edgar predeceased Sally on December 2, 1997.
Sally began work part-time as an operator, while in school, at the Waitsfield Telephone Co. Following her graduation from Waitsfield High School, she continued in that vocation in Albany, NY, for two years and then again in Waitsfield. When she and Edgar married they owned and operated the Verd-Mont Dairy Farm in Waitsfield for the next 12 years before converting the large farmhouse into the Verd-Mont Farm Ski Lodge. Sally managed the ski lodge in addition to being the bookkeeper for Edgar’s plumbing and heating business. Always the entrepreneurs, Sally and Edgar also developed and owned the Verd-Mont Trailer Park, which was part of the original farm.
A woman of strong faith, Sally was an active and devoted parishioner of Our Lady of the Snows Catholic Church of Waitsfield, was a member of the Couples Club in Waitsfield, was a member of the Mad River Valley American Legion Auxiliary Unit #75 and most recently a member of the Harry N. Cutting American Legion Auxiliary Unit #59.
Sally, simply put, was a people person. Gregarious, outgoing and a woman with strong opinions and a willingness to share them, she will be fondly remembered throughout the Mad River Valley as someone who was always willing to help another person no matter what the need. She embraced her entire family with love and caring that will remain with her children, their families and her special ones who called her “Grandma Sally.”
In her leisure time, she enjoyed reading and cooking and was well renowned for her delicious baked beans.
Sally is survived by her children, Rita Jane Viens and her husband Stanley of Waitsfield and Thomas E. Tremblay and his wife Debra of Waitsfield; three grandchildren, Christopher Bombard, Andrew Bombard and Kari Ann Tremblay; five great-grandchildren, Cheyenne Borthwick, Abby Borthwick, Jonathan Bombard, Connor Bombard and Jordan Ashley Bombard; her brother, Calvin Wimble, and his wife Norma of Waitsfield; as well as nieces, nephews and extended family. Sally was predeceased by six brothers, Owen “Bud” Sr., Edward “Bunker,” Kenneth, Robert, Leo and Donald, and four sisters, Sylvia, Kathleen, Caroline and Hannah.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from Our Lady of the Snows Catholic Church in Waitsfield on December 29, 2012, at 10 a.m. with a reception to follow in the church parish hall. Inurnment will take place in Holy Cross Cemetery, Duxbury.
