Patricia “Pat” Siner, 77, a longtime resident of The Valley and more recently Narragansett, Rhode Island, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, at the Apple Rehabilitation and Nursing Care Facility in Watch Hill, Rhode Island, on Monday, October 1, 2012. Born in Providence, RI, on November 5, 1938, she was the daughter of the late August and Marguerite Clays. On January 14, 1956, she married Albert J. Siner Jr. in Providence.
Pat was first and foremost about family. She was a dedicated wife and mother to her six children, a generous and caring daughter to her parents and a fun, supportive sister to her six siblings and their families. She and Al spent the early years of their marriage surrounded by extended family in Rhode Island, where Al worked three jobs and Pat had her hands more than full with the children. They moved the family to the Mad River Valley in 1971, ultimately making their home in a log house they built on Bragg Hill in Fayston. During that era, Pat worked part time at Kids Klothes but spent most of her time helping out at the Fayston School, chaperoning field trips and working at turkey suppers and rummage sales. She also never tired from sideline cheering at her children’s countless athletic events, both home and away. As times changed and her children grew up, she could then be found cheering for her grandchildren.
Pat’s strong religious faith was a gift that carried her through celebrations as well as hardships. She was a dedicated parishioner at Our Lady of the Snows in Waitsfield and Saint Mary’s in Narragansett.
Pat Siner will always be remembered as a pretty, well-put-together woman with a quick, bright smile that could have been the inspiration for the song “When Irish Eyes Are Smiling.”
Pat is survived by her husband, Al, of 56 years; their children, Mark, Pamela, Greg, Jeff, Missy and Sean; their spouses; 12 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; as well as siblings, nieces, nephews and extended family. Pat was predeceased by two sisters and by her grandson, Whalen Gaffney.
Services will be held in Narragansett, Rhode Island. Calling hours will be Thursday, October 4, between 5 and 8 p.m. at the Nardolillo Funeral Home, South County Chapel. There will be a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary Star of the Sea Church at 10 a.m., Friday, October 5. Burial and reception will follow the service.
