Leonard Rubin died Thursday, January 19, at his home in Waitsfield. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Claire Kinsler Rubin; his son, Jim Rubin and his wife Tamara and their sons Zachary and Max; his daughter, Trish Read and her husband Ed and their children Ben and Sally; his sister, Carrie Skerker, and his brother, Milton Rubin and his wife Norma. Leonard was predeceased by his sister, Sylvia Frank, and his daughters, Andrea, Lori and Jamie.
Born in Pawtucket, RI, he spent his formative years in Springfield and Longmeadow. Leonard served honorably in the Army Air Corps in the Pacific in WWII. He graduated from North Carolina State University with a degree in mechanical engineering. Leonard was treasurer of M.G. Kinsler Co., whom he partnered with his brother-in-law Richard G. Kinsler for 30 years. Upon retirement, Leonard moved to Sarasota, FL, for 20 years and then relocated to Waitsfield, VT, where he and Claire have been for the past nine years.
Leonard was a member of various organizations, including the Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, Jewish War Veterans, B'Nai Brith, Temple Beth El, Crestview Country Club, Jewish Geriatric Services and the Mad River Valley Rotary. He was an avid golfer, having taught junior golfers for many years in Sarasota, FL. Leonard played and taught bridge for many years as well. Above all, he was a loving, selfless, protective husband and father, making his family his first priority, always.
Leonard's funeral was held Sunday, January 22, at the Ascher-Zimmerman Funeral Home with burial in Beth El Cemetery.
