Cathy Hadden, 57, died peacefully at home on March 22, 2011. Born in Englewood, NJ, on August 25, 1953, she was the daughter of the late Marvin and Arla (Dickens) Warshaw.
Cathy attended Northern Valley Regional High School in Demarest, NJ, and SUNY at Stony Brook. After spending several years in Denver, CO, Cathy moved to Manhattan and worked as an information manager for HCI, a health care insurance company. She moved to Vermont in 1990. She fell in love and on May 28, 1994, married Dr. Roy Hadden. Together they managed Valley Animal Hospital. Cathy had a special place in her heart for animals, and opened Creature Comforts grooming studio at Valley Animal Hospital and later became involved with St. Bernard Rescue.
Cathy was always easily identified in the Mad River Valley in her Audi station wagon with the back windows fogged up by one of her St. Bernards, “Halsey” or “Cyrus,” usually accompanied by one of their rottweilers, “Bubby” or “Siddalee.”
Cathy had many talents and interests including interior design, flower arranging and Japanese art. She enjoyed entertaining in her home and was a gourmet cook.
But Cathy’s real love was travel and fashion. Cathy and Roy spent all their free moments traveling. Whether it was a quick overnight stay in a boutique hotel in Montreal or their annual weeklong vacation on her favorite Caribbean island of St. Bart’s, she was always game for an adventure, especially if it involved clothes shopping.
In recent years she became a board member of the Waitsfield Historical Society. She devoted her life to the care of her husband, her stepson and her beloved St. Bernards and cats.
Cathy is survived by her husband Roy, her stepson Luke, her siblings Ivy Ruark, Steven Warshaw and Jeff Warshaw, her nephews Casey and Dean Ruark and her cousins Deb Morway and Toby Israel. Through the graciousness of the United Church of Christ of Waitsfield, a Jewish memorial service was performed by Rabbi Tobie Weisman. The service was attended by family and friends on March 25 at 1 p.m.
The family requests that memorial gifts would be appreciated to New York St. Bernard Rescue, 296 Truax Road, Amsterdam, NY. One hundred percent of donations will be used for medical care for the dogs.
