Elizabeth F. "Betsy" Peterson, 75, of Sterling Ridge, Warren, passed
away at the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, NH, on
Saturday, December 11, 2010. Born in Cambridge, MA, on June 16, 1935,
she was the daughter of the late George E. and Violet (Gustafson)
Forsberg. On October 16, 1954, she married Paul J. "Pete" Peterson Jr.
in Salem Square Covenant Church in Worcester, MA.
Betsy was a 1954 graduate of the Bancroft School in Worcester, MA, and
continued a lifelong connection to both the school and her classmates.
Following her marriage, Betsy was busy and happy being a homemaker and
raising her children. She and her husband spent 35 years living in Rhode
Island. In 1970, she accepted a position as secretary to the headmaster
at the Moses Brown School in Providence, retiring in 1983. In 1985, she
and Pete purchased a condominium in Warren where they have enjoyed
attending the Warren United Church.
In her leisure time, she most enjoyed spending time with family and
friends, golfing, traveling, playing piano, listening to classical and
big band swing music, baking and skiing when the kids were young. Since
1994, she and Pete have wintered at Skidaway Island, outside of
Savannah, GA.
Betsy is survived by her husband of 56 years, Paul J. "Pete" Peterson
Jr. of Warren; their children, Lisa P. Chew and her husband Richard of
Tiverton, RI, Lara J. Peterson and her husband Jim Hood of Waitsfield,
John E. Peterson and his wife Linda of Narragansett, RI, and Paul D.
Peterson and his wife Mindy of Malibu, CA; two granddaughters, Sofi
Peterson and Bridget Peterson; three grandsons, Andy Chew, Eric Peterson
and Lars Peterson; a sister, June Carpenter of Waitsfield; a
brother-in-law, Bill Provencher of Marlboro, MA; as well as nieces,
nephews and extended family. She is also survived by four grand-dogs and
many grand-cats.
A service celebrating the life of Betsy Peterson will be held from the
Warren United Church on Sunday, December 19, 2010, at 1 p.m. The family
