Robert Bettis Harvey, 84, formerly of Moretown and Waitsfield, passed away at the Manatee Memorial Hospital in Bradenton, FL, on Thursday, November 25, 2010. Born in Waterbury on May 20, 1926, he was the son of the late Eugene "Bus" and Eunice (Bettis) Harvey. On June 27, 1974, Robert married the former Virginia Bettis Marble in Barre.

Robert was a 1947 graduate of Waterbury High School following 2 1/2 years of service with the U.S. Navy in the Pacific Theater of Operations. He continued his education and his vocation at the Diesel Trade School in Chicago and the Auto Body and Fender School in Kansas City. Robert co-owned and operated for over 30 years Dion and Harvey Motors in Barre. Moving to Bradenton, FL, Robert worked at the Manatee Memorial Hospital from which he retired in 1989.

Robert was a Boy Scout leader, a member of the Moretown School Board, was Moretown town moderator, a justice of the peace and Village Green block captain. His other memberships included the Grange, the American Legion, the USS LST 574 Association and the Village Green Bowling League in Bradenton.

Robert is survived by his wife of 36 years, Virginia Harvey of Bradenton, FL; two sons, Blain Harvey and his wife Sonia of Fountain, CO, and Jeffrey Harvey of Northfield; two stepsons, Terry Bettis and his wife Diane of Palmer, AK, and Wayne Marble and his wife Michelle of Lexington Park, MD; five stepdaughters, Rae Marie Bleau of Essex Junction, Patsy Love and her husband Tom of Saucier, MS, Angela Luce and her husband Stephen of Underhill, Valerie Marble of Grass Valley, CA, and Bridgit Smith of Richford; 18 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Eugene "Bill" Harvey and his wife Brenda of Barre, Burley Harvey and his wife Linda of Northfield, and Bradley Harvey and his wife Judy of Milton, FL; two sisters, Betty Krick of Northfield and Marlene Kirkpatrick and her husband Ron of Northport, FL; as well as nieces, nephews and extended family. A sister, Beverly Parison, predeceased Robert.

Memorial services will be held from The Chapel at Westminster Towers in Bradenton, FL, on Friday, December 3, 2010, at 10 a.m. Graveside committal services with military honors will be held this spring in Hope Cemetery, Waterbury, at a date and time to be announced.
