Robert E. Kingsbury, 71, of Jersey Way, Morrisville, and a former resident of Warren, passed away unexpectedly at Copley Hospital in Morrisville on Saturday, August 7, 2010. Born in Waitsfield on September 7, 1938, he was the son of Janice (Lovett) Kingsbury and the late Elwin R. Kingsbury.

Robert attended schools in Waitsfield and as a young man worked on his family's farm in Warren and operated the Bon Voyage Taxi Service in the Mad River Valley. A longtime and well-known grader operator, Robert served as road commissioner for the towns of Warren, Underhill and Waitsfield. In addition, he operated his own grader business from 1966 to 2000 from which he retired.

In his leisure time, he enjoyed hunting and fishing, particularly with his grandfather Frank Lovett; enjoyed flying and had obtained his pilot's license; and he took great pleasure in sharing his political philosophies via letters to the editor in The Valley Reporter.

Robert is survived by his mother, Janice Kingsbury of Waterbury; his companion for over 22 years, Marcia Shafer of Morrisville; his two sons, Kris R. Kingsbury and his wife Margaret of Waterbury Center and Scott D. Kingsbury of Melbourne, FL; three grandchildren, Kristopher E. Kingsbury of Roanoke, VA, Brett A. Kingsbury of Morrisville and Mariah P. Taylor of Hyde Park; two sisters, Judith Grandfield and her husband Eugene of Moretown and Joan Andrews of Waterbury; as well as nieces, nephews and extended family. A brother, Bryan M. Kingsbury, predeceased him.

A family-led graveside service will be held from the Irasville Cemetery in Waitsfield on Friday, August 13, 2010, at 1 p.m. The family requests that flowers be omitted; rather memorial gifts would be appreciated to the North Country Animal League, 3524 Laporte Road, Morrisville, VT 05661 (www.ncal.com).
