William R. (Dick) Wilcox died of an unexpected heart attack early
Wednesday, July 14, 2010. He was born on September 20, 1930, the son of
William J. Wilcox and Edna Bauman Wilcox in Newcastle, PA. Dick spent
his young life where he grew up and attended high school in Beaver
Falls, PA. Upon graduating, Dick attended Bethany College in West
Virginia and married his college sweetheart, Barbara J. (Bobbi) Curtis,
on October 27, 1951. After serving as sergeant in the U.S. Army during
Korean War time, he continued his education and received his BS in
business administration from Boston University. Dick became a beloved
high school math teacher in the Waltham, MA, school system and taught
for 27 years from 1967 through 1993.
Dick was an extremely friendly and inquisitive man who was an inventor,
artist and teacher who was active in the lives of other senior citizens
in the Lake Sunapee area, his adopted home. He was positive and fun
loving, enjoying his friends and family. Dick was loved by all who knew
him.
Dick is survived by Bobbi, his wife of 58 years; his beloved dog
"Boston"; his son, Lee, 42, daughter-in-law Terri and grandchildren
Kelsey and Colby of Wilmot, NH; and son, Bill, 41, and grandchildren
Curtis, Carly and Lucas of Moretown, VT.
Services were held at the Kearsarge Presbyterian Church, 82 King Hill
Road, New London, NH, on Saturday, July 17, 2010, at 2 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family is encouraging donations to the New
Hampshire chapter of the Alzheimer's Association, 1 Bedford Farms Drive,
Suite 105, Bedford, NH 03110 in Dick's name.
