Walter F. Maynard Jr. (Tootie) of Millbury, MA, and N. Fayston, VT,
died at the age of 80 at home in Millbury, MA, attributable to heart
failure, on May 29, 2010. He was born December 31, 1929, to the late
Gertrude (Snyder) and Walter Maynard of Burlington, VT.
Walter graduated high school in 1947, then enlisted the same year in the
U.S. Navy where he served 10 years before serving an additional 10
years in the U.S. Air force. His 20 years serving our country were
colorful ones for Walter and all of those who were fortunate enough to
have crossed paths with him. During time served, he lived in several
places all over the world from Alaska to Turkey and created endless
relationships in all places in which he lived.
After his accomplished career in the military service, Walter settled
down, built his home and raised a family in North Fayston, VT. Walter
worked as a successful carpenter with many different construction
outfits until his retirement with Brothers Builders, Inc. of Waitsfield
in 1992, after which time he and his loving wife, Pat, spent an era
traveling, camping, boating and spending time with his beloved
grandsons, Joshua and Travis Corbiel.
Walter only recently moved to Massachusetts to seek the best medical
care for his failing health. Walter will always be a much loved son,
brother, soldier, entrepreneur, adored husband, father, trusted friend
and mentor to so many who had the privilege of knowing and loving him.
Walter will be dearly missed by all of those who loved him: Patricia
Maynard, wife of 30 years; Children: Debra Dunbar of Foley, AL, Steven
Maynard of Hancock, VT, Vicky Howard of Foley, AL, Tammy McKinley and
husband Terry of Foley, AL, Robin Maynard and companion Bob Weeks of
Washington, VT, Bobby Degen of Burlington, VT, Bonnie Degen and
companion Craig Laffan of Essex Jct., VT, Edna Corbett and husband
Donald of Essex Jct., VT, Patty Edson and husband Guy of Plainfield, VT,
Eileen Chase and husband Jim of Randolph, VT, Diane Degen and fiance
Rick McDowell of Essex Jct., VT, and Amy LeBlanc and husband David of
Millbury, MA, with whom he and Pat lived with. He was blessed with over
22 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. Sisters: Joyce Albarelli
and husband Joseph of Burlington, VT, Connie Barnes and late husband
Richard of St. Albans, VT, and Sandra Manning of Burlington, VT. Many
nieces, nephews and cousins.
Walter will be cremated in Massachusetts, then buried in Vermont. A
Memorial Service will be held Saturday, June 19, at noon at the VFW Post
#782 176 South Winooski Ave, Burlington, VT. The family requests
