Raymond Ernest Trepto Jr., 62, of Moretown, known by his friends as
"Ray," "Joe" and "Grizzly T," passed away on May 8, 2010, at Fletcher
Allen Health Care in Burlington after suffering a stroke this past week.
Born in Montpelier on August 26, 1947, Ray was the son of Una I.
(Clark) Trepto and the late Raymond E. Trepto Sr. On January 9, 1988,
Ray married the former April G. Lee in Moretown.
Ray was a 1965 graduate of Montpelier High School and following
graduation he went to work for the State of Vermont Highway Dept. as a
driller for several years. Offered a position with Johnson's Artesian
Well Drillers, he worked as a well driller for over 35 years, retiring
in 2001. He was a member of the Vermont Army National Guard, being
discharged in 1971.
Always interested in firearms, Ray was a member of the NRA, SASS (Single
Action Shooting Society), the Verdant Mountain Cowboys of VT and the
Dalton Gang of NH - Cowboy Action Shooting Clubs, the Harley Owners
Group (HOG) as well as the Lamoille Valley Fish and Game and the Barre
Fish and Game Clubs. In his leisure time he enjoyed cowboy action and
black powder shooting with his son, woodworking, riding his Harley,
working on his property and vegetable gardens and, more recently,
cooking.
Ray is survived by his wife of 22 years, April Trepto of Moretown; his
mother, Una Trepto of Berlin; his children, Heather Houser and her
husband Ed of Sudbury, MA, and Richard Craig and his wife Stephanie of
Morrisville; his stepchildren, Sasha Elwell of Moretown and Shane Elwell
and his wife Kelley of Leesburg, FL; his grandchildren, Collin Craig,
Mallory Craig, Benjamin Craig, Elizabeth Craig, Edward Houser, Emma
Houser, William Houser, Anthony Wood, Dustin Wood and Erin Elwell; two
sisters, Ginger Baker and her husband Jeff of Waterbury Center and Nancy
Trepto of Graniteville; a brother-in-law, John Graves of East
Montpelier; as well as nieces, nephews and extended family. Ray was
predeceased by a sister, Sally Graves.
A service to celebrate the life of Ray Trepto will be held from the
Wesley United Methodist Church in Waterbury on Saturday, May 15, at 1
p.m. with a reception to follow in the church dining room. For those who
