Andrew E. Dzelzitis of Warren died on Friday, March 5, 2010, at the Dartmouth - Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, NH.
He was born in Riga, Latvia, the son of the late Jekabs and Valentina
(Smits) Dzelzitis. In 1949, the family emigrated to the United States
where Andrew later graduated from Phillips Exeter Academy and Brown
University. He served in the U.S. Army as a teacher in its language
program in Puerto Rico.
An artist, he taught painting and drawing at the Horace Mann School in
Riverdale, NY, and at Hudson High School in Hudson, NY, retiring in
1990. Throughout his life his fine art was featured in many exhibits,
one-man shows and a number of publications. He was a dedicated member
of Patria, his Latvian fraternity.
Andrew leaves Betty Ann, his wife of 42 years, at their home in Warren
among the mountains, woods and trout streams that he loved. He is
survived by his stepdaughter, Jennifer Allen, her husband Tom Straw and
grandchildren Christopher Soloway and Parker Soloway of Branford, CT;
his stepson, Samuel Allen, his wife Diane and grandchildren Hunter
Allen and Ashley Allen of Bayside, NY; his brother, Valentins J.
Dzelzitis of Brookfield, MA; and a niece and her husband, Rosalind and
John Dorelli of Rockville, MD.
As was his wish, he will be buried privately in Warren. Gifts in his

Perkins-Parker Funeral Home in Waterbury, VT.
