Albert Eugene LaVanway Jr. of Fayston departed the bonds of earth August 14, 2009, at the age of 71. He was born March 23, 1938, in a corn crib (his family home had burned) in Waitsfield, the son of Albert E. and Edythe (Brothers) LaVanway, and spent his boyhood days in Waitsfield. May 7, 1955, he joined his life with Zelda Hartshorn and spent the next four years in the Air Force as a jet mechanic on the top secret U-2 planes in the strategic air command. Upon discharge he learned plumbing and electrical, starting his business as a carpenter/contractor and building over 40 homes in the area. Retiring in 1993, he continued some carpenter work and made articles of furniture for family, being a handyman to friends and relatives, and continued to help people as a New England Organ Donor.

Albert will be greatly missed by his wife of 54 years; five sons and two daughters, Maurice and wife Barbara (Rivers) of Duxbury, Wendall of Manassas, Virginia, Glenn of Waitsfield, Kevin and wife Paige (Perna) of Duxbury, Darleen of Parsberg, Germany, Chris and partner Myrna of Winter Park, Florida, and Alyce of Waitsfield.

Eleven grandchildren, Johnni (LaVanway) and husband Trevor Damon of Moretown, Jodi LaVanway and partner Scott Hunter of Waterbury Center, Michelle (Sposta) and husband Mark Hurst of Underhill, Jeremiah and Joshua LaVanway of Columbus, IN, Jay, Mariah and Matthew LaVanway of Duxbury, Kristie LaVanway of Jacksonville, FL, and Mandy LaVanway and William Karafa of Parsberg, Germany.

Six great grandchildren, Cullen and Siena Damon, Andria Hurst, Tyson and Savana LaVanway, and Jordan Hunter.

Sister Mavis Ricketts, brothers Dowen and Roger and wife Judy, several nieces and nephews, sister-in-law Rachel McCuin, brothers-in-law Alan Hartshorn and wife Connie and Paul Hartshorn and wife Marie. Predeceased by parents and sisters, Connie Ruiz, Kitty Dalley, and Julia Dennler, and brother Clarence.

Services will be held at 1 p.m. at North Fayston Cemetery on Sunday, August 23. The family requests that flowers be omitted and instead greatly appreciate donations be made in memory of Albert to the Waitsfield-Fayston Fire Department, 9 Bridge Street, Waitsfield, VT 05673.
