Joan Baker Hildebrand, 82, of East Warren Road, Waitsfield, passed
away unexpectedly at her home in the comfort of her family on Friday,
June 5, 2009. Born in Baltimore, MD, on St. Patrick's Day, March 17,
1927, she was the daughter of the late John Rea Baker and Mable
(Milton) Baker. On August 24, 1951, she married James Bosley Hildebrand
in Baltimore. James predeceased Joan on December 8, 2000.
Joan was a graduate of Western Maryland College. Following her marriage
she and James enjoyed their time together with many moves during her
husband's employment with IBM, which included Burlington. They
particularly savored their travels and adventures to distant countries
and cultures. Eventually they fell in love with the Waitsfield
community and decided to make their final move close to their children
and grandchildren.
Family dinners and celebrations with her grandchildren were most
special to Joan along with hosting get-togethers with friends, tending
her vibrant flower gardens or enjoying sunsets from her front porch.
She was an active member of St. Dunstan's Episcopal Church in
Waitsfield and was an avid Red Sox fan to the end, with high
expectations of another World Series Championship this year.
Joan is survived by her two sons, James B. Hildebrand and his wife
Nancy Coombs of Waitsfield and John B. Hildebrand and his wife of Carol
of Milford, NH; her loving grandchildren, Kyle D. Hildebrand and his
wife Megan, Meghan Barnes and her husband Tyler, Cory Hildebrand and
Harlan Hildebrand.
