Brian D. Sumner, 44, of Verd-Mont Trailer Park, Waitsfield, passed
away unexpectedly at the Central Vermont Medical Center in Berlin on
Wednesday, May 6, 2009. Born in Montpelier on March 7, 1965, he was the
son of Sandra (Pearce) Sumner and the late Howard A. Sumner. Brian was
previously married to the former Sharon Stevens.
Brian grew up in Warren and attended Harwood Union High School in
Duxbury. A painter by trade, Brian worked for over 18 years for
Brothers Building Co. in Waitsfield. In his leisure time he enjoyed
snowmobiling, snowshoeing, time at the ocean in New Hampshire, and was
an avid Red Sox fan. Family oriented, Brian particularly enjoyed
spending time with his daughter, Lyndsay, who meant the world to him.
Brian is survived by his daughter, Lyndsay Sumner of Waitsfield; his
mother, Sandra Sumner of Berlin Health and Rehabilitation Center; a
stepson, Michael Stevens of Warren; his sister, Paula Robinson, and her
husband Robert of Waitsfield; his brother, Nelson Sumner, and his wife
TaLani of Bryson City, NC; his former wife, Sharon Sumner of Warren;
nieces and nephews: Shannon Sumner, Laura Herring, James Litchfield,
Krista Litchfield, Jessica Robinson, Emily Sumner and Nathan Sumner;
great-nieces and nephew: Briona Litchfield, Talan Herring and Isabella
Litchfield-Stone; his dog and faithful companion, Jasmyn; as well as
extended family. Brian's father, Howard, predeceased him on April 3,
1997.
Funeral services were held from the Waitsfield United Church of Christ
on Saturday, May 9, 2009, at 10 a.m. Interment followed services in the
Warren Village Cemetery. For those who wish, memorial gifts would be
