David Francis Livingston
July 24, 1945 - February 18, 2009
Dave
was taken from us far too soon. He is predeceased by his father,
Julius; mother, Laura and brother, Delbert. He is survived by sisters,
Anna Nicholas of Rhode Island and Nancy Barnum of New Jersey; and by
brothers, Lawrence of Tucson, Dennis of Colorado, James of Illinois,
and Kevin of Vermont; and his many nieces and nephews.
Growing
up in New England, Dave graduated from Waitsfield High School in
Vermont, where he was a member of the ski team. He was an expert skier
who loved to be first on the mountain. Dave enlisted in the Army
following high school, where he served in Vietnam with B Troop, 11th
Cavalry, during 1966 and 1967. A soldier who fought to preserve our
freedom, Dave was an honored and respected life-member of Disabled
American Veterans, ultimately giving his life for his country.
All
those who knew Dave are better for it. A man among men. A brother in
every sense of the word to his family, his friends, and his comrades in
arms. Dave's spirit and love was pure and true. He had a gift for
helping others in spite of the many challenges he endured every day. He
would brighten your day when his was dark. He loved his dogs, he loved
U of A basketball, and he loved life. Dave had a lifelong love of the
mountains, from his time as a Boy Scout, through his time as a
Tucsonan, spending time on Mount Lemmon whenever he could. His pain is
gone now and, surely, he's in a better place.
We are thankful
that Dave's strength and spirit will always be with us. May our brother
and friend sleep well, and drop us a line from time to time. Vaya con
Dios nuestro amigo (Go with God our friend). An Honor Guard Memorial
Service was held at Desert Sunset Funeral Home on Thursday, February
26. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to Disabled American
Veterans (dav.org /1-877-426-2838).
